Charlotte to Nashville

Here is the short story with photos of my trip to the Nashville Oppo meet by way of the Tail of the Dragon.

I got on the road mid morning after saying goodbye to the pup by taking him for an extra long walk. The drive to Asheville was smooth, even though the flooding earlier this week left a couple of slides and downed trees next to the road. I took a break in Asheville for fuel for the car and tacos for me from Zia.

Asheville stereotypes: Subarus and dog lovers abound. I was a bit jealous of the guy with the adventure bike that parked next to me while I ate.

I saw some fun cars on the way including a McLaren and a Viper ACR (I think).

On to Deal’s Gap! I had fun on route 28 getting to Fontana Dam, then took some photos of the Oppo sticker on my car with the sign and then the dragon in case Ike wants to use that to promote the SE Oppomeet coming up in August.

Then I enjoyed the road. There wasn’t much traffic, but one car refused to pull over for a while. My slightly done tires squealed around the corners and on acceleration. My suitcase banged around in the trunk. Oncoming Harleys leaned over the centerline and I almost hit them. The engine stayed about 5500 RPM or higher. I had fun.

After that I decided to keep going on to Nashville rather than make another round trip on the dragon, given the traffic. The dams were working hard to release all the recent rainfall and the rivers were quite high, making the rest of the journey back to interstate highway very scenic.

Now I’m unwinding in my hotel room and about to search out a badly needed car wash and some food. I got in on schedule . . . East coast time. I forgot that Tennessee is on central time.

I ended up using a gas station wash, wincing the whole time. Now having a burger at Murff’s.
